Waiting For Snow in Havana

Narrative Feature – When a revolution ravages his world overnight, 11-year-old Carlos and his 14-year-old brother, Tony, are forced to flee their home without their parents, finding themselves orphaned in Neverland, pirates around every corner.

Based on Carlos Eire’s National Award-winning memoir, Waiting for snow in Havana, this film tells Carlos’ Pedro Pan Story.

Pedro Pan: Between 1960 and 1962, the Catholic Church helped airlift 14,000 kids out of Cuba when it was rumored that the State would impose parental rights over the nation’s children. Carlos did not see his mother for 3.5 years and never saw his father again. “We were here for good, we of the silent, unseen airlift that hardly anyone noticed,” writes Carlos.

The film confronts the threats posed by artificial intelligence and deepfake technologies, then highlights a movement of grassroots, nonprofit, and independent outlets innovating to restore public trust.

At its core, the documentary is a visual and emotional journey through the voices of veteran journalists, young storytellers, and the communities who still depend on them.
